We
recently completed the sprinkler installation into a HMO
(home of multiple occupation) for James Yuill, a student
letting property owner who had his sprinkler system part
sponsored jointly by Northampton fire and rescue and
Northampton borough Council who contributed 50% of the total
installation cost of the project.
Baz Fox the head of Fire Protection for Northampton Fire and Rescue was delighted to hand over the certificate of conformity to James who was pleased at how easy the installation had gone. “The Nationwide team was in and out in two days and you could hardly tell a system had been fitted. The concealed sprinklers are a revelation as you can not tell what they are and there is no way our tenants can tamper with them” said James
Helen Mansell, on the left in the picture, the senior environmental health officer for Northampton Borough Council was also impressed with Nationwide’s sprinkler system. “We will encourage all our HMO owners to follow this landmark project. We support the Fire and Rescue initiative both morally and financially and we look forward to seeing Nationwide installing more sprinkler systems for us”
Baz Fox had inspected the installation and was delighted with the way Nationwide had handled the project. “I have no hesitation in signing off this project as complete and satisfactory and we now have the evidence to prove to other HMO owners how easy it is for Nationwide to provide a professional and economical service for us. Our aim is for all HMO’s in Northampton to have a sprinkler system as we view these properties as high risk”.
Keith Rhodes, Nationwide fire’s senior engineer said “this is one of many we have done for or sponsored by regional fire and rescue services. It is laudable that the brigade is proactive and has encouraged Northampton Council to take such an enlightened view. We do not wish a fire upon anyone but we know that one day some where grateful parents will thank god that their child was resident in a HMO that had a fire but with a decent landlord who took the trouble to install sprinklers. That will be the partnerships biggest payback”
