Fire Sprinklers in High Rise Apartments

A project of 500+ apartments in a city centre. Work in progress for approximately 2 years, which was completed in 2006. A typical scheme where the escape routes pass other habitable rooms and the client desires an open plan aspect to the kitchen and lounge areas of each apartment.

Most apartments are partially fitted with fire sprinklers to cover the entire escape route. Building control give dispensation for this although strictly speaking the partial system does not comply to BS 9251:2000. Apartments above 18 metres are fully sprinklered to provide complete cover to BS 9251:2000

The sprinkler systems run off the incoming mains water supply and are economical stand alone devices installed from as little as £ 515 per apartment for a partial system. We advise the building services designer on precise requirements but there are no onerous and costly additional specifications.
